John M. Thomas

ASLA, Principal

John Thomas PhotoJohn Thomas has over 25 years of experience as a practicing landscape architect. He did undergraduate work at the University of Vermont in Environmental Studies, and the Conway School of Landscape Design, prior to receiving a Bachelors of Science in Landscape Architecture from Penn State University. Before founding John Morgan Thomas Landscape Architects, John worked as a community planner for the Bucks County Planning Commission and as a landscape architect and associate at Carter van Dyke Associates in Doylestown Pennsylvania.

John brings a wide range of experience in both public and private practice, including municipal planning, park and recreation plans, pedestrian and trail studies, and a variety of residential, institutional and commercial design projects. Since establishing his own firm, his focus has been primarily on detail scale design, whether on award winning private residences, or public landscapes such as the Penn State Alumni center. He particularly enjoys the interaction with clients and collaboration with other design professionals and craftspeople. Plants have always been a passion, and planting design continues to be a focus of his practice. John serves as the lead designer on most projects, as well as functioning as the project manager for larger commissions.
