Private Residence

A new pool and pool house were constructed in the back yard of this existing residence.  The amorphic shape responds to the hillside site, the curvature of the pool following the natural contours of the slope.  The raised spa and terrace create a smooth transition across the pool and down the hill, and provide an opportunity for a water feature.  The client desired a large outdoor entertaining area, so in addition to the pool house a very large terrace was arranged around the pool.  A reflective, pale-colored Asian flagstone was chosen for its cooling effect under-foot, as well as its interesting natural-cleft texture.  Plantings were designed to create a cove-like setting around the pool, and physically separate it from other areas of the yard.  The code-required pool fencing is concealed within the vegetation.
